Duties Basic Function of the Position: The position is located in the Library of Congress (LOC) office, US Embassy New Delhi. The incumbent will be required to work under the supervision of the Chief of Acquisitions (Supervisory Librarian) who rates and the Deputy Field Director who reviews the incumbent’s performance. The incumbent will serve as the LOC overseas expert in efficient and cost-effective development of the South Asia collections of the Library of Congress (America’s national library) as well as 50 American, Canadian, and British libraries which participate in the South Asia Cooperative Acquisitions Program (SACAP). S/he employs various methods (purchase, gifts, and exchange arrangements) in acquiring comprehensively, yet selectively and in-depth, a wide variety of English language print and non-print publications, in assigned subject areas, from India, Bhutan, and the Maldives. S/he will also manage the acquisition process of publications in all South Asia vernacular languages. The incumbent will also perform other duties as assigned by the agency.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: The position requires three years of experience in acquisitions/collection development in a university, library, research institute, or publishing house.

Education Requirements:
The position requires successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in the Humanities or Sciences.

LANGUAGE:
Level 4 (Fluent) in English (Speaking, Reading, and Writing) is required. This may be tested.
AND
Level 2 (Limited knowledge) in Hindi (Speaking) is required.
AND
Level 2 (Limited knowledge) in one of the following languages: Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, or Urdu.
