Duties The incumbent is one of two Political Specialists in the combined Political/Economic section at U.S. Consulate General Mumbai and serves as the principal locally employed staff member covering political and security developments in the five states of Mumbai’s consular district: Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Goa. The incumbent leads the section’s reporting and analysis on state and local elections, legislative affairs, political parties, and security and law enforcement developments, serving as a primary point of contact with senior Indian officials throughout the consular district. The Political Specialist also maintains high-level contacts in government, academia, journalism, and civil society, and helps arrange meetings and site visits for U.S. Government and Consulate officials. The incumbent frequently serves as a back-up to the section’s other Political Specialist covering human rights and civil society. The incumbent reports directly to the Political/Economic Section Chief and receives guidance from the Section’s Political Officers, and collaborates with other section and agency colleagues on reporting and other activities as necessary.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Minimum five years’ experience in a media or research organization, social development or advocacy association, political party or government office, or undergraduate teaching is required. Must have experience involving contact and engagement with senior government and/or military officials, as well as in writing, research, and analysis using traditional and new media sources. Education Requirements:

LANGUAGE: Fluency (Speaking, reading and writing) in English is required. Fluency (Speaking and reading) in Hindi and Marathi is required. This may be tested. Please specify in your application your level of proficiency in each language listed here.
