To serve as an experienced, lead on Environmental, Health and/or Safety (EHS) projects and assignments that are complex in nature and that support and enhance Caterpillar facility performance and compliance.

JOB DUTIES:
The EHS Professional II represents the journey level position for EHS related functions.
The key role is that of an individual contributor.
This position will be accountable for contributing to the identification, analysis and resolution of needs and problems in a discipline for which the incumbent is beginning to build a reputation as an expert.
This position performs complex analysis work, identifies and resolves problems.
Although this position may be the transition from individual contributor to team leadership, the major focus of the job is on technical delivery.
Incumbents may work more directly with different units, suppliers, customers and/or other teams and begin enhancing general and business skills.
This requires the ability to communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner.
Decisions may significantly impact on: facility EHS performance, compliance; negotiations with suppliers; and leveraging new technologies.
Key areas of responsibility encountered in this role may include any or all of the following:
evaluate products, processes, and equipment; keep up to date on new technologies or regulations;
communicate technical information to facility management, dealers, customers, team members, suppliers and other units;
support and advise other EHS professionals, managers; and develop and maintain keen understanding of internal and external customers’ needs.
Must manage their own development, continuously learning through experience and staying abreast of technology and regulations.
Key skills to be developed at this level are data extraction/analysis, failure analysis and problem solving, application of simulation tools and methods, and practical application of theory and concepts.
Representative Activities:
Monitors EHS performance and recommends priorities and actions for improvement.
Reviews new products, equipment, and processes for potential risks and recommends modifications before introduction.
Collaborates with employees and supervisors to identify and mitigate EHS risks.
Develops standards and work practices with line personnel and monitors conformance through EHS inspections.
Assures compliance with organization and government EHS standards.
Performs EHS audits
Completes or reviews reports for submission to the EPA or OSHA
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
A degree in an appropriate scientific discipline is highly desired and consideration will be given to equivalent EHS experience.
Incumbents have usually gained 4 to 7 years of EHS experience and are able to perform complex assignments.
Strong analytical skills are essential.
Requires a self-starter with strong technical leadership skills.
Must have ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as employees in other units, customers and suppliers.
