The Role: Analyst – Upstream Company Strategies
The Team: The Company Strategies team is part of the Upstream Companies and Transactions team under S&P Global Commodity Insights. The team undertakes research and writes reports pertaining to oil and gas company strategies and competitive positioning in their core upstream business, and expansion into the low carbon space.
The Impact: As part of the team, you will be delivering high-quality insights into the upstream and low carbon strategies of the world’s largest international oil companies (IOCs) and national oil companies (NOCs). Your research provides insights to our customers who are either oil and gas companies themselves or are looking for impactful action-oriented research on oil and gas companies in our coverage.
What’s in it for you: As an analyst with the Company Strategies team you will:
Develop a focused understanding of company strategies
Develop subject matter expertise that is valued both internally and externally
Gain insight into the various drivers determining oil and gas company behavior
Be directly involved in answering questions that are essential intelligence for our clients your
In the medium term, you would gain expertise with written reports and ultimately via client meetings and presentations
Responsibilities:
Support deadline-driven, quick turnaround and short high-quality research pieces focused on company strategy, competitive position, and portfolio analysis oil and gas companies within our coverage
Partner company-focused analysts to write quick event-driven pieces
Support tracking and evaluation of macro trends and analyze financial and operational results to generate oil and gas portfolio models and forecasts and help maintain databases that contribute to research reports and presentations
Contribute to team workflows by compiling data; creating spreadsheets, graphics, and presentations
Expand knowledge into related fields/disciplines including, but not restricted to, corporate finance, capital markets, international affairs, and geology.
What We’re Looking For:
Excellent writing skills, with the ability to convey complex topics and themes using clear and concise language
Proficiency with Excel; database management and/or VBA skills are a plus
The ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team; role centered in the S&P Global office in Gurgaon
Ability to work with a global set of colleagues (we have a multinational, multi-continental team)
Ability and willingness to learn a range of topics and seek ways to expand knowledge
A self-motivated, deadline-driven mentality, with the ability to multitask and prioritize among an array of required tasks, all with limited supervision
A sense of curiosity around the oil and gas sector will be a plus
Basic Qualifications:
A degree in economics, finance, geology and/or international relations
Fluency in written and spoken English essential; additional foreign languages would be beneficial
Knowledge of introductory concepts of oil and gas, and basic finance, or economics
