As a Senior Data Engineer you will design, create, test, deploy, and manage complex multi-site virtual and cloud environments. What You’ll do:

• Service Ownership –You will be part of a team, whose mission is the shared full stack ownership of a collection of services and/or technology areas.
• Ownership Scope – You will understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of the production services you own. In partnership with your team, you will have the responsibility to ensure that services are designed for a global workforce and delivered as mission critical with focus on security, resiliency, scale, and performance. You are the ultimate authority and are accountable for the end-to-end performance and operability of the services you own.
• Service Design – As the business needs evolve you will define and implement improvements in service architecture, both current and future. As a Data Engineer you will be an expert at articulating technical characteristics of your services and the dependencies between services.
• Operations Engineering – You will understand and be able to communicate the scale, capacity, security, performance attributes and requirements of the services you own. Data Engineers are Subject Matter Experts able to understand and communicate every characteristic of their service stack, such as:
  • degradation and behavior under load, of the services and their dependencies
  • end-to-end tuning, optimizing resource utilization, as load patterns fluctuate
  • Instrumentation and metrics that clearly describe the service behaviors and identify issues
  • scaling requirements and patterns
  • resiliency and recoverability, ensuring that backup / restore and disaster recovery capabilities are implemented, tested and maintained
• Automation – You will have a clear understanding of automation and orchestration principles, and able to automate, wherever and whenever the possibility arises, while simultaneously eliminating technical debt. Automation must be part of your DNA.
• Technical Expert – As service owner, you are the ultimate escalation point for complex or critical issues that have not yet been documented as SOPs for Level 1/2 staff. You will get called in during major incidents as a SME, when the source of a problem is unclear. You will have deep understanding of service topology and the dependencies required to troubleshoot issues and define mitigations.

This Is What We’re Looking For:

• BA/BS in Computer Science or related field is preferred
• 10+ years of experience in a Data Engineer, DBA or Sr Cloud Engineer role
• 5+ years experience with Amazon Cloud Services, Spinning up EC2s, S3, EMR, Security Groups, AWS-CLI, AWS-RDS, Cloud formation, AWS Migrations, and AWS Database Services
• Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets
• Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
• Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management
• A successful history of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets
• Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores.
• Experience deploying multi-node SQL Server always on and clustered environments
• Experience with application database setup in cloud environment

• Database design and DDL deployments to cloud environment and working closely with application teams
• Hands on engineering experience for SQL server migration to AWS for production/non-production environments.
• Managing replication and change data capture systems on Microsoft SQL Server
• Assist with the maintenance plans, capacity planning, and performance tuning
• Evaluating and testing new database features, documenting and presenting to team
• Experience with designing Cloud environments with DevOps and Continuous Integration Deployment tools
• Scrum, XP, Lean and other agile practices, and methodologies
• Plan, document and implement database backup/recovery strategies to support contingency planning and disaster recovery requirements.
• Ability to write and design (stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints) and optimize slow running queries
• Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
• Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
• Most importantly, the attitude to be a good team player and the willingness to learn and implement new Cloud technologies as needed
• Methodical approach to troubleshooting complex problems

They should also have experience using the following software/tools:

• Experience with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.
• Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres and Cassandra.
• Experience with stream-processing systems: Storm, Spark-Streaming, etc.
• Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc.
